About the Role
SAN DIEGO SURFERS / D1 PERFORMANCE
Game Analyst | Job Description
Volunteer development opportunity
• 3–5 hours/week during competition
• Remote
Purpose
Support D1 performance through focused video analysis. Use Veo and the Surfers framework to show how our playing principles are executed, highlight patterns and help coaches identify training priorities. Make film useful, not exhaustive.
Responsibilities
Review 1–2 agreed match priorities; provide useful clips and one short Coaching Snapshot; track up to two agreed KPIs selected from the 12-measure framework when capacity permits; organize clips and tag players only after coaching approval.
Who we are looking for
Curious, organized and observant; interested in rugby or performance analysis; able to communicate clearly and work independently. Experience is welcome, not required. Veo familiarity is a plus.
Training and support
We provide the D1 Playbook, Analysis Framework, Veo orientation, example clips, a reporting template, standing priorities and a designated coaching contact. Begin with a practice review and receive brief periodic feedback.
Scope and development
No routine D2 analysis, full player reports, opposition scouting, exhaustive coding, filming or required match attendance. Additional work is by mutual agreement and within capacity. Learning goals and approved portfolio examples can support career development.
Recognition and success
This is a volunteer opportunity; any gear, reimbursement or compensation must be confirmed before appointment. Success means timely, accurate evidence coaches can act on, delivered sustainably. Coaches own tactics, training decisions and sensitive player feedback.
Requirements
Interest in rugby or sports performance analysis; experience is a plus but not required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify patterns in game footage.
Organized and reliable, with the ability to meet agreed deadlines.
Clear communication skills to summarize findings and share useful clips with coaches.
Able to work independently and manage 3–5 hours per week remotely during competition.
Willingness to learn Veo and use the Surfers’ analysis framework and reporting templates.
